Green Jobs Now!
by Fresh Energyby Daryl Sager, Energy Justice Program Coordinator
Are you ready for green jobs? If you are, or just want to learn more about it, come to the Green Jobs Now National Day of Action this Saturday, September 27th at the Minneapolis Urban League. This event is one of over 600 in all 50 states to show policymakers that everyday people are ready to tackle the climate crisis by building a new green economy.
These grassroots events, held throughout the country, will have a special focus on low-income communities, communities of color, and indigenous people to promote this idea as a way to lift people out of poverty. Van Jones, Founder & President of Green For All, focuses on giving everyone an equal shot in the new growing green economy. According to a recent report from the Blue Green Alliance, which is a partnership of the Sierra Club and United Steelworkers, more than 350 companies in the Twin Cities area could hire roughly 8,000 workers to meet the demand for alternative energy products and services.
These estimated jobs will be the focus at the Minneapolis Urban League where Rep. Karen Clark, Congressman Keith Ellison, and others are going to discuss how we can share in the prosperity of a clean renewable economy. At the event you will have an opportunity to be filmed, sign a petition, and strengthen the community by promoting green jobs. Please get involved and show to our leaders that we need green jobs now for a strong economy.
