Members of Congress are now the focal point in U.S. energy and climate policy. Congress has the responsibility for leadership in designing the policies that will reinvent our economy around clean energy and taking science-based action to limit and reduce global warming pollution. President Obama in his February 24 address to Congress issued the call to action to Congress:
“To truly transform our economy, protect our security, and save our planet from the ravages of climate change, we need to ultimately make clean, renewable energy the profitable kind of energy. So I ask this Congress to send me legislation that places a market-based cap on carbon pollution and drives the production of more renewable energy in America.”
Citizens must take on the shared responsibility for making sure Congress and the President enact strong climate protection policies in 2009. We will be posting links to clean energy and climate legislation on our website as it’s introduced, as well as analyses of the economic and climate protection benefits of proposed policies.
